What is StarBox-X?
Just so there's no confusion....
StarBox-X is entirely open source based. All sources are provided, nothing is hidden. The advantage StarBox-X has over other ways to work with Asterisk is that it's cheaper and easier than any other solution we know to get going.
Star2Star does sell a commercial version of StarBox-X. It's gussied up in a fancy case and includes customized versions of the binaries. It also includes support for the full set of Star2Star hooks (monitoring, management, specialized call routing, etc.). Those hooks are an option when you build a StarBox-X image. Once installed, you can also make use of the augmented application extensions Star2Star supplies.
Those extensions only work on a complete Star2Star system (but the guys over at the commercial side of Star2Star would be happy to make you a dealer if you wanted to ship something). But the StarBox-X, standalone, is basically a cleaned up, tested, working implementation of Asterisk (and, depending on additional modules you select, some other open source add-ins).
